SESSIONS
The Infrastructure Behind Effective Volunteer Engagement
Tuesday, May 5, 2026 | 9:00 aM – 10:30 aM EST
Speaker
Session Description
Volunteers are essential to mission delivery, yet many organizations struggle to engage them in ways that are meaningful, sustainable, and aligned with real needs. Too often, organizations approach volunteer engagement reactively, trying to plug gaps when needs arise, applying one-size-fits-all processes, and expecting a single staff person to hold it all together. Without shared ownership and the right level of support, the result is not just inefficiency; it is missed opportunities for volunteers to contribute in meaningful, sustained ways.
Effective volunteer engagement does not happen by chance—it happens by design. This session focuses on the infrastructure required to engage volunteers as true partners in mission delivery. Participants will explore how to move from task-based involvement to clearly defined, outcome-driven roles; how to build internal alignment and support for volunteer engagement; and how to create systems that set volunteers up for success from the start.
Grounded in a practical framework for strategic volunteer engagement, this session will cover designing volunteer roles that align with mission priorities, understanding what today’s volunteers are seeking and how that should shape your approach, creating onboarding, training, and support systems that are right-sized for different roles, engaging staff and leadership in shared ownership of volunteer engagement, and making volunteer impact visible to strengthen retention and long-term engagement. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of what strong volunteer engagement infrastructure looks like, along with concrete steps to begin strengthening it within their own organization.
Engaging VoluntTOLDs: When and How to Engage Those Who Are Required to Volunteer
Tuesday, May 12, 2026 | 10:00 aM – 11:30 aM EST
Speaker
Session Description
The number of individuals volunteering because they “have to”—from court-ordered service to school or graduate program requirements—is growing, and 2027 Medicaid policy changes will accelerate this trend. Engaging “volunTOLDs” alongside traditional volunteers can bring benefits, but also raises challenges around roles, screening, training, support, and tracking.
This interactive session uses real-world case studies to show what works, offers tools and templates for readiness assessments, and provides strategies for communicating to leadership the urgency and value of engaging required volunteers. Participants will leave ready to make informed decisions and build programs that transform required volunteers into meaningful contributors.
Cross Generational Volunteer Engagement and Retention
Tuesday, May 19, 2026 | 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM EST
Speaker
Session Description
In today’s nonprofit organizations, most teams include members from multiple generations-each bringing distinct perspectives, values, and ways of working. This professional seminar series explores how these generations collaborate, where they align, and where challenges can arise. Participants will examine the motivations, strengths, limitations, and life-stage influences of the generations currently active in the nonprofit sector.
The series focuses on practical leadership strategies to communicate effectively and engage individuals at their level. Attendees will learn how to recruit, retain, and motivate talent across generations. By the end, participants will be equipped to intentionally bridge generational differences to strengthen teamwork, enhance project outcomes, and better advance their mission and goals.
